What does R.I.C.O. mean?
The acronym stands for the Racketeer-Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, which is a federal statute enacted in 1970. The law allows prosecutors to seek harsher sentences for mobsters if they can prove a connection to a criminal organization or syndicate. In theory, the statute also allows the government to prosecute every member of a crime family after proving a criminal conspiracy to be true.
